Dear CIS Community,
Something to Ponder
“They say the universe is expanding. That should help with the traffic” - Steven Wright
We have been informed by Camana Bay Property Management that temporary roadworks will be taking place in the vicinity of Cayman International School beginning Monday 30 March 2026. These works will result in improved infrastructure, safety, and future programming opportunities for your children. The bulk of development is expected to begin over the summer.
The initial roadworks will be carried out within the high school parking lot, which will require some temporary adjustments to traffic flow, parking access, and the daily drop-off / pick-up process. This configuration of roadworks is expected to remain through the end of the school year. While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, delays, and noise, we kindly ask for your patience and cooperation as everyone becomes familiar with the temporary arrangements.
What can one expect during these road works?
- Roadworks to begin on Monday 30 March 2026.
- Adjustments to the drop-off / pick-up in the High School and Middle School, and traffic circulation south of the school.
- Changes to parking access with a new temporary parking area, as outlined in the map below. Complementing this, are improvements to the parking area north of the ARC.
- Directional signage and support from security personnel to help guide traffic.
- Possible delays during peak drop-off / pick-up times.
As with any new traffic arrangement, the first few days may require some adjustment.
How can one support safe and courteous driving and parking habits?
- Please carefully review the attached map before arriving on campus.
- Familiarise yourself with the updated traffic pattern.
- Please follow posted signage and security directions and courteously follow the directions of the security guards and school staff.
- Allow a little extra time for drop-off and pick-up.
- Be mindful of others navigating the changes, whilst noting school zone speed limits, reserved accessibility spaces, and remaining courteous to each other and school staff.
- Only park in accessibility or expecting mother parking spaces if you are indeed an expectant mother or have documentation noting the use of accessibility parking.
- Whether you are driving yourself or plan on using a driverless vehicle sometime in the future - please drive at the school zone speed limit (15 miles/hour, 24 kilometres / hour) or slower whilst watching for pedestrians, and refraining from texting and driving. In the words of the great philosopher, Jim Morrison, "Keep your eyes on the road, your hand upon the wheel".
Where can I learn about additional developments regarding parking, traffic flow, and infrastructure developments in the vicinity of CIS?
- We look forward to sharing more information about these infrastructure changes at a later date and encourage everyone to stay tuned for further updates via email, the Weekly Current, and in person meetings.
Is there anything else to note at this time?
- Once the temporary parking to the south of the school and regular parking to the north are restored, there will be more parking spaces available near the school than ever before.
- As always, we encourage people to carpool, walk, or ride bikes to school. Doing so helps foster a sense of community, promotes physical activity, and reduces traffic congestion.
We understand that changes to daily routines can be challenging, particularly during busy school hours and larger school events. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as the community adjusts to these temporary measures that will eventually result in improved infrastructure for our families, school programming, staff, and of course CIS students and your children.
Thank you for your time in reading the Director’s Wave, as well as your patience and understanding regarding the roadworks south of the school. Wishing you a good day.
Sincerely,
Jim
